Hike Report for Burnt MeadowBurnt Meadow is located in Maine, United States. It has an elevation of 495 meters above sea level. It is located at the following coordinates: (43.9167, -70.9167).
Although unmarked, the trailhead is pretty easy to find. Go 3.1 mi South on route 160 from the intersection of routes 113 and 160 and there is a small parking area on the right. The trail is marked with blue blazes starting on the right side of the parking area near the road.
We hiked Burnt Meadow Mountain in August 2010. There are now two options. The trail branches at about 15 minutes into the hike. The right branch with blue blazes is called the North Peak trail and is the original trail with the steep climb at the very top. The left branch with yellow blazes goes all the way around the middle peak before ascending to the North peak. It's much longer - maybe twice as long - and does not have the very steep final climb. We went up the blue trail and down the yellow trail. It was a nice day and this was a very enjoyable afternoon hike with good (but not spectacular) views in most directions from the top. I would do this one again.
We would rate the North Peak trail ascent as mostly moderate with some difficult spots. The last 300 vertical feet are steep and rocky. The twin brooks trail gets and easy/moderate.
We measured the top elevation minus the bottom at 1150 ft. There is some up and down on the way, but not much. Our loop trip took 3 1/2 hours including lunch at the top. The trails are in great shape and very well marked.
