Chirisan, better known as Jirisan, is a good solid climb. It isn't very picturesque, with most of the climb being in what feels like a prehistoric dried riverbed, but it's definitely a good workout. The 3 hour climb up is very steady and hard work, but it's coming back down that is really a challenge on your concentration. Most locals will be decked out in hiking poles, face masks and fully body hiking suits but you can definitely do it minimalist style as long as you have solid tread shoes. Dangerous and slick rocks await anyone with worn down shoes [I rolled my ankle twice on the way down, my husband popping his clear out]. Enjoy!
