Ski Trail: dry; well marked (more)

Wide trail, super easy for toting a baby up the mountain.
Northern Loop Trail: dry; well marked (more)

Great for backpacking a baby up the mountain - wide trail and not steep.
Summit Trail: wet and slippery rocks; muddy trails; well marked (more)

Easy trail, but with a baby on my back, the wet rocks made me a little nervous! Mostly well marked, but with one place that it's easy to miss the blaze if you're not paying attention.

This is a pretty short hike, but it was a pleasant experience. It is steep and there are some rocks, and was a little bit of mud when we went, but it's so short that the steepness doesn't really matter too much. We took the summit trail up which is 0.2 miles, and the Northern Loop trail down, which is about a mile, and more of a gradual descent.

As we arrived on the summit we saw some hawks flying very close to the mountain which was really neat. The view is nice, though not as nice as a larger mountain view would be, but you can see the ocean.

This is a great family park. There are restrooms, picnic tables, and a playground before you get to the trail leading up to the mountain. (more...)

Bradbury Mountain has never been on my radar to hike. My Maine Atlas and Gazetteer shows it as a 200 foot elevation gain to the summit. Doesn't seem like much of a mountain to me.

But my brother's church is taking a group of kids there next week, and they wanted to explore the place first, so I tagged along; it was a good excuse to visit with Jonathan for a bit.

When you enter the park, if you park in the upper lot, the Summit Trail (the shortest and steepest trail) is right next to you, by the playground. We hiked this trail to the summit. Only took us a few minutes.
Dogs on the summit
I was surprised to find out how utterly flat the horizon line was; not a single mountain in view. Not my idea of a stunning vista, but I suppose that's to be expected when you only hike for a few minutes.

We then went across the bluff trail to another scenic lookout point. and then back down. Near the bottom is a quarry, which you can get  (more...)

Describe this location
Bradbury Mountain is more of a hill than a mountain. Located in Southern Maine, this short hike is wonderful for families who have small children. Bradbury Mountain is a common destination for elementary school field trips in Maine.
